Ways to De-stress After a Busy Week

After a long week, we all need to take a little time to relax and de-stress. Here are just a few ideas for some R&R so that you can recharge for another busy week!

Tea + Book

The best relaxer. There is nothing better than grabbing a great book (I'm currently working on Grace Coddington's Memoir) and making a cup of your favorite tea, like Tazo's Wild Sweet Orange. Preferably after you've shut off your electronics, taken a hot shower, and curled up in bed.

Disconnect

We spend 24/7 connected to our phones, computers, TV's, etc. So power down everything and just spend some time away. Not constantly checking Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter will help you refocus and relax. Even better, try to power down at least an hour before you go to sleep every night. You'll sleep so much better!

Take a Walk

Go grab some fresh air and take a walk around your neighborhood. I'm lucky enough to have Central Park, and the Highline fairly close, so it's easy to pop over and take a stroll. Walking will clear your mind and help you relax. Sunlight triggers the release of serotonin, which will instantly lift your mood! Plus, just getting up and moving will help you refocus!

Clean

For me, I feel much more relaxed when everything is clean and organized. Cleaning will help distract you from your racing list of to-do's, and when everything is done, you'll feel much more at peace and ready to relax.

Paint your Nails

If you've only got fifteen minutes, why not give your nails a fresh polish? Having a fresh coat on my nails always makes me feel better. Especially if it's a fun color like Geranium or Chillato!

Hot Shower / Bath

My favorite part of the day. Shower time. If you're lucky enough to have a bathtub (I'm jealous) pop in a bubble bar or bath bomb from Lush, or some Dr. Teals epsom salts and settle in for a soak! Maybe bring that tea and book in with you!

Yoga / Meditation

I've only recently gotten into yoga, but it's amazing for calming the mind and body after a long day. There are a ton of apps with simple yoga routines to start out with. Another alternative is mediation. I use the Calm app for thier guided meditation before bed, or just when I need a little time-out to relax. You'll feel a little silly at first, but it's so worth it! Ten minutes of meditation is better than a 40 minute nap!
