Her Style: Crocodile with Kendall Becker

Her Style is a bi-weekly article on Southern New Yorker, showcasing one fashionable woman styling a current trend of her choice, accompanied by an interview with her on fashion, beauty, career, and more!

Kendall Becker is a freelance editor & stylist, full-time fashion forecasting assistant and part-time blogger at fromtherealist.com. After studying Fashion Merchandising, Media & Marketing at Kent State University, she now lives in New York pursuing her dreams of surviving and thriving in the fashion industry.

Kendall is one of the gals I’ve gotten to know via Instagram, and we finally met this past NYFW! She is such a sweet person, and I know you’ll love her gorgeous city-chic style and bubbly personality!

How would you describe your style?

I think the best way to describe my style is contemporary chic. I love to integrate up-and-coming trends, but I’m definitely selective on what I chose to try and how I go about styling them. I always try my best to put an elevated yet fun spin on everything I wear— whether it’s Zara or Chanel. Although I love to experiment, you can probably catch me wearing black, neutrals and the occasional pop of red, lots of leather and faux fur, and consistently choosing trousers over denim.

Where do you find inspiration for your style?

Anywhere and everywhere! I may be one of the last few avid magazine readers left in the world which is, and has always been, a huge influence on me. Every Fashion Month, I religiously live on Vogue Runway for the latest collections, check out street style round-ups, Instagram (of course) and costume design in movies/TV. I fawn girl over the classics like Audrey Hepburn looks, Gossip Girl costume design and Olivia Palermo street style— all the epitome of chic.

Tell me about your 9-5! How'd you get into it? What do you do?

I’m currently a Fashion Forecasting Assistant which has been a really fascinating experience so far! Leading up to my current role, I was an Assistant Fashion Editor, freelance writer/stylist and held various media internships in college, so switching gears over to the retail side has been an exciting challenge. I keep tabs on what’s going on from the runways to social media, consumer behavior shifts and macro trends to help guide our team of buyers towards the most important trends of the season and how they may need to be adjusted to fit our clientele. It’s a role that utilizes right and left brain thinking in order to be successful which allows for a nice mix of tasks!

You're such a bubbly and outgoing person, has that always come naturally?

Thank you! It’s definitely come natural to an extent, but it’s also taken practice for sure. Growing up, I was always going to modeling/acting auditions and working with a range of people on sets from directors to actors both young and old, so it’s made me comfortable connecting with almost anyone. I really value having that experience growing up and all the life lessons it taught me from an early age.

What's one thing most people don't know about you?

Piggy-backing off the last question, most people don’t know I grew up modeling/acting! It was such a unique experience that I always be grateful for. Outside of fashion, I’m obsessed with music (specifically British rock bands, no clue why), studying astrology, visiting museums and purposely getting lost in NYC in hopes of discovering somewhere cool and completely new.

If you could only wear one outfit for the rest of your life, what would it be?

This is surprisingly easy— a black turtleneck, leather jacket, perfect fitting black trousers, heeled leather booties and a red lip. Always classic, always chic.

I hope you liked seeing how Kendall and I styled the Crocodile trend, and learning more about her! If you want Her Style delivered to your inbox, you can get it here!
