A great wardrobe starts with a solid foundation, and there are few pieces more classic or versatile than those below. Investing a little more money into quality core items not only looks more polished, but will save you money in the long run. Well-made garments won’t wear out nearly as fast, and they don’t have to break the bank.
Shopping secondhand is one of the best ways to build your wardrobe sustainably, and often times you will end up with a more interesting and personalized closet than if you had gone to the same trendy fast fashion store everyone else shops at. However, shopping secondhand is not without it’s challenges. Not everyone has access to great thrift and consignment stores like those in major cities, so online is a great place to look!
Gone are the days where eco-conscious fashion was only shapeless hemp dresses. There are tons of amazing modern brands that create beautiful clothing with a lower environmental impact, have ethical production practices, and/or philanthropy programs to improve the communities around them! Below are 7 of my favorite labels to shop at. I hope you find some to connect with!
Sustainable fashion can mean many different things, but one of the most important is undeniably material composition. Synthetic fabrics like polyester and nylon have become extremely popular in fast fashion because they’re cheap and versatile, but since these garments are created to be thrown away each season, they generate an incredible amount of textile waste. These types of fabrics are not able to biodegrade, and can even harm environments further by releasing microplastics. In 2018, 11 million tons of textile waste was put into landfills in the US alone, making up 7.7% of all consumer waste. While there’s no easy solution, taking a closer look at the tag before purchasing an item can significantly reduce the amount of synthetic (i.e. petroleum based) non-biodegradable fibers that we generate.
The fashion industry produces 10% of all humanity's carbon emissions and is the third most polluting industry, right behind fuel and agriculture. What’s more, clothing production has almost doubled since 2000, and being thrown away at a far faster rate. The equivalent of one garbage truck full of clothes is burned or dumped in a landfill every second. That needs to stop, and how do we do that? By ditching fast-fashion.
2020 has certainly been a crazy year, and undoubtedly one that has changed the way we dress. Office-attire and party shoes were abandoned for sweats and slippers, but with hope of a more-normal future in sight, we can once again look forward to getting dressed.
However, some elements of the way we’ve been dressing will carry forward into the future. A focus on comfort, ease, and versatility paired with the need to wear items that feel special and exciting will define the new year.

While wearing a mask daily may not be our first choice, there are now so many different options that using them as a fashion accessory is easy and fun! I have loved getting to match patterns and textures to my daily outfits, and they can be such an easy way to add a pop of color to basics! I’ve rounded up 12 of my favorite reasonably-priced masks, and I hope you’ll find a couple to make putting it on before heading out exciting instead of annoying.
We’re finally able to venture out of the house a bit more, and just in time for the summer heat! That means breaking out the summer sandals, and luckily, there are tons of cute options on sale right now! I’ve broken them down into Casual, for around the house and running errands, Updated, for a comfortable but elevated shoe to pair with shorts and a tee, and Dressy, for when you want to get a little more dressed up.
One of my favorite winter styling hacks is wearing midi skirts with tall boots. You can layer thick leggings underneath and look incredibly chic while keeping toasty warm! I’ve curated a few of my favorite parings to shop, so you can be best-dressed all winter long!
Ever since I was old enough to spend my chore money on Vogue, I’ve been in love with designer fashion, and after studying and working in the industry for four years, I’ve found an even deeper appreciation for the creativity, craftsmanship, and talent that goes into high end fashion.
These clothes will last for years and years, and they’re more ethically and sustainability made than their cheap, fast fashion counterparts.
The one downside is, of course, the price tag. For those of us (like me!) who live on a pretty strict budget, it’s hard to justify retail prices. But I’ve been able to curate a pretty decent closet of designer items, and today I’m spilling all my secrets.
Twice a year, the world’s most fashionable people flock to Paris for Fashion Week, all dressed to the nines in the latest trends. But Parisian women, long regarded as the most stylish of them all, still keep a few styling rules which keep them looking chic from dawn till dusk. If you want to dress like the effortlessly chic Parisienne, here are a few guidelines:
The coldest parts of winter are upon us, but just because it’s freezing outside doesn’t mean that you can’t still look great. The easiest way to beat the cold and look stylish: Statement Coats. Anything from bold colors to leopard print, whether it’s felt or fur! I’ve rounded up some of the cutest statement coats all under $150!
We’re heading into the colder months of the year, which means it’s almost time for my favorite accessory! I developed a love of berets more through necessity, traveling Europe in the winter, and needing warm and versatile accessories, but they have blown up as a trend, and there are so many fun variations above and beyond just changing colors!
Leather, pearls, embroidery, there are so many ways to turn a simple, chic cold weather accessory into a statement piece in an outfit!
The fashion world has been obsessed with this plush fabric for some time now, and it doesn’t appear to be going away any time soon.
Good new is, this trend is totally wearable for every girl and every occasion. Holiday party coming up? Velvet LBD. Going to brunch with friends? Throw on jeans and a velvet tee shirt. Want to make workwear more fun? Add velvet shoes or a velvet blazer!
Whatever the occasion, there’s tons of amazing velvet options to choose from below!
Head-to-toe print can be such a fun and easy way to make an outfit a statement. Whether it’s a fun maxi dress, or a matching set, it’s easy to throw them on together and look incredibly fashionable! But how to not go overboard with it? Here are a few tips for wearing an all-print look:
We’re starting a new weekly post here on SNY! Every Tuesday I’ll pick an upcoming trend, and post a little inspiration along with tons of affordable options! This weeks trend: Leopard print.
Animal prints were all over New York Fashion Week, and leopard was definitely a standout. If you want to go bold, throw a leopard overcoat over a white tee and jeans, or start smaller, and just go with a belt or scarf!
It's been a wild few days! Between both working and attending NYFW shows, seeing tons of my blogger friends, and battling the ever-unpredictable NYC weather, I'm both exhausted and exhilarated! (and we're only halfway done!)
The first part of my recap will be what I've been up to, what I wore, etc! If you want to read about some of the shows, new trends, and shop the new trends now, scroll down to the second half of this post!
Where did summer go?? I can't believe fall is coming up so fast, but the good news is that fall is the best season for fashion! Rich suede fabrics, flowy dresses with light jackets, berets paired with blazers, the options are endless!
The blogging world is enormous. I'm talking MILLIONS of creators all over the internet trying to carve out thier own piece of creativity, and find success with it. And especially in the Fashion / Lifestyle / Beauty categories of blogging, competition can be fierce for followers, partnerships, and even stretches to who has the best designer handbag, or who is taking the most Instagram-able vacations...
Being a blogger and being an introvert are two things that don't really seem to go together. So why would someone introverted want (and love) being a blogger?
This is something I've thought a lot about lately. Personally, I'm a huge introvert, and I sometimes struggle with social anxiety. But a big part of being a blogger is attending events, networking, and connecting with other bloggers and brands.
The bitter cold that's still lingering in New York has made me want to wear nothing but giant sweaters and leggings everyday. But instead of dressing like a bum for work, I found the best dupe, wool pants that feel like pajamas, and look like a trendy trouser! For work, I usually pair them with a loafer to play on the masculine trend, but an off the shoulder sweater and silk scarf still keep it feminine.
